Jim Guerin witnesses N&W steam action at Bluefield, West Virginia in October 1958

By October 1958, it's getting late in the game for steam in the United States, so Jim Guerin travels to Bluefield, West Virginia to catch Norfolk and Western action. The road has been dieseling this year with leased power from a variety of sources and steam is on the wane. Yet, from a bridge overlooking the entire railroad right-of-way at Bluefield, Guerin catches numerous 2-8-8-2s on coal drags:
