The 1956 Palmerston video is now online!
We've posted the full CNR Palmerston 1956 video to the Vimeo platform. This footage, complete with titles interspersed between the scenes, runs 30 minutes and 20 seconds altogether.
Why is this film coverage so rare?
Lots of railfans descended on this area circa 1958 with cameras in hand—but by then many of the branchline trains had been discontinued and diesel had taken over a lot of the assignments. These rare movie clips from Harold Kinzie were shot in the summer of 1956—before diesels, before train cancellations, when mixeds and way freights had a lot of cars! Wooden passenger equipment abounds, too.
Anyhow, that full video is password-protected and available exclusively to pre-purchasers of Speed Graphics and Steam 1958! vol. 2 (which the bindery tells me this morning is in the final stages).
